The Practice

About

“If there is a fear of falling, the only safety consists in deliberately jumping.” - C.J.

Huys'e Architects is a design-led practice based in Cape Town, focused on creating homes that move beyond the ordinary.

Founded by Nikola Redelinghuys, the practice is grounded in a belief that architecture is not about excess — but about clarity, intention, and the careful shaping of space.

Each project begins with understanding: the site, the landscape, and the way you live. From there, design becomes a process of distillation — removing what is unnecessary and refining what remains until the architecture feels inevitable.

We work with simple, honest materials, precise detailing, and strong spatial ideas to create homes that are both enduring and deeply personal.

This is not about trends or style.
It is about creating spaces that feel right — now, and over time.

At its core, Huys'e Architects is driven by a simple idea:
that a well-designed home can shape daily life for the better.

How I Work

01Understand

Every project starts with listening — to you, the site, and the constraints that shape it.

02Define

We establish a clear architectural idea that guides every decision moving forward.

03Refine

Through drawing and iteration, the design is tested, reduced, and clarified.

04Resolve

Details, materials, and construction are carefully considered to ensure the project is buildable and lasting.

Nikola Redelinghuys

Nikola Redelinghuys is a SACAP-registered professional architect and founder of Huys'e Architects.

She leads a deliberately small practice, taking on a limited number of projects each year to ensure focus, precision, and a high level of care.

Her work spans private residential design and social impact, contributing to Urban Think Tank Empower, where architecture is used as a tool for empowerment — not as a luxury, but as a necessity.

With a background in Museum Heritage and Preservation, her approach is inherently curatorial — shaping spaces as frameworks for life.
